Camp Director

Billy Popejoy is the CTA owner and will direct the tennis program and all tennis camp activities for the entire summer.

Billy brings to CTA 25 plus years of teaching experience with every level of junior player — from beginner through tournament competitor.  His experience includes teaching in Oklahoma, Tennessee, New York, Florida, Australia, and England!  He played college tennis at Northeastern State University, has instructed many college All-Americans., State Champions, and was even a hitting partner for a junior that eventually was ranked 41 on the ATP tour.  He is USPTA certified, and revived certification through Tennis Coaches Australia Victoria.

Location

The Cyclone Tennis Academy is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on the beautiful campus of Casady School, one of the finest college preparatory schools in the heart of the country.  Located 9 miles northwest of downtown, the campus covers 80 acres and includes a picturesque lake.

Campus Facilities and Activities

Campers have the exclusive use of 12 tennis courts.  Campers utilize multiple other athletic facilities at Casady School. Volleyball, Kickball, Basketball and Soccer games are organized throughout camp.  A lip sync contest will be held at the school’s theater or a secondary location.

Camp Philosophy

The CTA Summer by the Lake is a true summer tennis camp in every respect; one that specializes in tennis and provides a wide range of activities and social events, a complete and well-designed camping program. CTA counselors are carefully trained to supervise every aspect of camp life – on court and off.

CTA’s goals are to provide a comprehensive tennis education for each camper and to develop a genuine love for the game and respect for the ideals of good sportsmanship.

​

The CTA staff, carefully selected and trained by Billy Popejoy, consists of high school, middle school coaches and college players who are friendly, enthusiastic, and committed to the development of each camper.

Awards Presentation

CTA’s Summer by the Lake celebrates the campers’ achievements at an awards ceremony. Prizes are awarded for individual tennis accomplishments as well as to team winners and to winners of special events such as ping pong tournaments.
